• About us: Centaur Sailing Ltd is an official Training Centre recognised and authorised by the Royal Yachting Association which acts as the governing body on behalf of the Maritime Coastguard Agency to run courses in seamanship and navigation by distance learning, also known as e-correspondence. Centaur Sailing Ltd. is registered as company number 6442192 in England and Wales.

If you do write to us using snail mail; please be sure to provide an e-mail address if you would like a reply. Physical shipment of course materials, including items such as paper charts and CD-ROMs, and on successful completion of a course the genuine RYA certificate, are only sent to addresses with a UK postcode, on all other occasions communication is by either e-mail or telephone.
• Shipping address: must have a UK postcode and for debit/credit card payments must be the address registered to the card used for payment otherwise please use the bank transfer method of payment from 'checkout'.
• Shipping method: Royal Mail or a courier service is used for shipping and a signature will be required when accepting delivery of your course materials. Fully paid up orders received before midday on a working day will be despatched on the same day, if received later they will be despatched on the next working day. If there's no one to receive the delivery a card is left giving details on how to collect it from them. If the shipment is not collected within the time stated on the card they won't hold it any longer and return it to us, in such cases a further shipping charge is payable.
• Back orders: If an item is out of stock, we will hold the order for you until all items are ready for shipping in one shipment. This unusual situation is only likely to delay shipment by up to 2 working days but customers always have the option to cancel their order and receive a full refund if they would rather not wait.
• Privacy policy: contact details and progress through a course is entered into our student database for retention in case in the future a student loses their satisfactory course completion certificate and requires an e-replacement or wishes to enrol on a more advanced course for which the previous course is a pre-requisite for enrolment. We guarantee that this information remains within Centaur Sailing Limited.
• Students must provide for their use: a personal (Windows or Mac) computer, a printer, a scanner (or a digital camera), a broadband connection to the internet, e-mail facilities, a compass with a wide enough span to draw both large and small arcs on an Admiralty chart (RYA courses cannot be completed without the ability to draw erasable arcs, i.e. in pencil, on a chart or plotting sheet), a 2B pencil, pencil sharpener and a soft eraser for work on paper charts.
• Full-support Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Students must provide: a copy of their RYA Day Skipper shorebased (theory) satisfactory course completion certificate, or a verifiable equivalent. In the event of a person attempting to enrol on a Full-support course and being unable to produce this pre-requisite, the enrolment will be altered to a no-support course and the difference in cost refunded to the card used for payment.
• Replacements policy: We recommend that students take the precaution of copying all the documents on the CD-ROM to the hard drive of their computer in case of damage to or loss of the CD-ROM. Free replacements are available if the CD-ROM is found to be faulty on receipt and notified to Centaur Sailing Limited within 48 hours of receipt. The passage of more than 48 hours from receipt, will be taken as confirmation that the CD-ROM was working correctly on receipt and a charge will be payable for any subsequent replacements that are required.
• Cancellation and returns policy: since the course materials have been checked and approved by the RYA, once a course has been delivered and thereby the possibility of illegal copying of our intellectual property occurs, a refund cannot be made.
• Course duration: The RYA continually revises courses to ensure that they meet the current needs of leisure sailors and Centaur Sailing ensures that its materials are up-to-date with the latest RYA syllabus. As a result students undertake to complete their course & all the assessments within 12 months from the date of enrolment.
• Reminders: To help ensure that students don't miss out on earning their certificate by inadvertently forgetting to actually complete their course and assessments before their course expires, we will e-mail reminders at approximately 9, 6 and 3 months from the expiry date.
